A new series is coming….
“How do I improve my English writing?” is an incredibly easy question to answer. The answer, of course, is practice. It is almost impossible to improve your writing skills without doing lots of writing.
Instead of writing something new from scratch, one easy way to get you started is to rewrite some existing text. There are two basic kinds of rewriting, which are structural and sentence level. Sentence level changes may involve fixing errors, making grammatical changes or substituting, deleting and switching words around. Structural rewrites, on the other hand, may involve changing the genre of the text entirely.
Rewriting is not something scientific. It is about achieving the purposes you want to achieve. You may want to change the tone of a writing. You may want to make it shorter and more concise. Or you may want to make it sound more formal. There is almost always an effort to find synonyms for any of the basic terms in the original sentences (sometimes it may be better off to simply rephrase using a different form for a verb). And there can be many alternatives for expressing a similar idea. In any case, along the process you will be practicing your English writing skills, hopefully in a not-so-boring way 🙂
Find out which book is right for you based on your skill level:
